Description

Golden chicken cordon bleu is stuffed with savory ham and melty cheese, coated in a crisp breadcrumb layer, and baked or fried to perfection. This classic dish is elegant, comforting, and surprisingly easy to make at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless chicken breasts

  • 4 slices deli ham

  • 4 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese

  • ½ cup flour

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (Panko or traditional)

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional)

  • Salt, pepper, paprika

  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying or brushing)

Instructions

  • Pound chicken breasts thin and season with salt, pepper, and paprika.

  • Lay ham and cheese on each breast. Roll tightly and secure with toothpicks.

  • Dredge in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs (mixed with Parmesan).

  • Chill for 20–30 minutes.

  • Pan fry until golden, then bake at 375°F for 15–20 minutes, or bake only at 400°F for 25–30 minutes.

  • Let rest 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Chill rolls before cooking for best results

  • Try Dijon cream sauce for an elegant finish
