Description

Black pepper chicken with mushrooms is bold, savory, and coated in a rich, glossy sauce. An easy stir-fry dinner that tastes better than takeout.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken (thighs or breasts), thinly sliced

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (for marinade)

  • 1 tsp cornstarch (for marinade)

  • 2 tbsp oil, divided

  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced


Instructions

  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • ¼ cup chicken broth or water

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp freshly cracked black pepper

  • 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (slurry)

Notes

  • Marinate chicken with soy sauce and cornstarch for 10–15 minutes.

  • Mix sauce ingredients and set aside.

  • Stir-fry chicken in 1 tbsp oil until golden. Remove and set aside.

  • Sauté garlic, onion, and mushrooms in remaining oil.

  • Return chicken to pan, pour in sauce, and cook until thickened.

  • Serve over rice or noodles.
