Description
Juicy, glazed char siu chicken marinated in a sweet-savory hoisin sauce and baked or grilled until sticky and caramelized. A bold, flavorful Chinese-inspired dinner that’s easy to make at home.
Ingredients
For the Marinade:

2 tbsp hoisin sauce

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp oyster sauce

1 tbsp honey or brown sugar

1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)

1 tsp five-spice powder

1 tsp ginger, grated

2 garlic cloves, minced

Optional: 1–2 drops red food coloring
For the Chicken:

1½–2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs

Neutral oil (for grill or pan)

Scallions or sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
Instructions

Whisk marinade ingredients. Reserve 2–3 tbsp for basting.

Marinate chicken in remaining sauce for at least 1 hour (up to 12).

Oven: Bake at 400°F for 20–25 mins on a wire rack. Broil 2–3 mins to finish.
Grill: Grill 4–5 mins per side, basting with reserved sauce. -
Let rest 5 mins. Slice and serve over rice or noodles.

Use bone-in thighs for juicier results (adjust cook time).
